The Modern Rolodex

Sitting and drinking my coffee this morning, I pondered the thought/concept that these days, we live in a modern Rolodex. We can custom pick services we need, right at our fingertips. For those younger than GenX and Boomers, it wasn’t always this way. We had to flip through the Rolodex on our desk (reference the visual provided). This Rolodex was a desktop rotating stand, cataloging hand-written or typewritten cards with information of your go-to contacts. Old school. No automation involved. Maybe the cards had pencil, eraser shavings and whiteout, but when you needed help addressing a question or hiring an expert, only the trusted ones made their way into your very personalized and coveted Rolodex. Over the years, the Rolodex was replaced with caller ID and speed dial, and then cell phones where you could store your ‘favorites’ and then finally, the smartphone with the entire internet search engine at your fingertips.
